Ok, one of the things I didn’t get around to doing in class was going over the different assignments. It’s pretty straightforward. Just go to the ‘Instructions for Assignments’ page for a list and brief descriptions.
One of them is a new kind of assignment that I’m experimenting with, which I’m calling ‘guest blogger’.
From now on, each week one of you will be assigned the role of guest blogger, and your post will show up here at the top of this page, just like mine does right now.
So, what does a guest blogger do? The guest blogger’s job is to get the discussion going for the new reading assignment. Every Thursday, a guest blog will be posted for that week’s assignment. The guest blog should do two things: 1) identify the main ideas of the reading, and 2) provide one or more discussion questions. That’s it. Nothing to it.
When it’s your turn to be guest blogger, you’ll be responsible for doing the reading a little in advance so that you can write your blog post and send it to me by Wednesday, 5 PM, for review. That means the Wednesday BEFORE the assignment is due, which is basically six days ahead of time.
Because, you see, the rest of us want to be able to read your post as we’re working on the assignment. Your job is to help us know what to look for and what to think about as we read.
Your blog does NOT need to be fancy. It just needs to offer a brief synopsis of the main ideas. If you WANT to get a little fancy by adding pictures or hypertext links, go ahead, as long as they’re appropriate. Sorry, my blog doesn’t handle flash or anything fancier than a picture, really (i.e., I can’t embed videos; you’d have to give us the youtube link or something).
In this post I give you an example of what a guest blog should look like.
But I want to end this post by asking for a volunteer to be our first guest blogger for Week 3. You can volunteer by posting in the comment box. You can also volunteer for a different week, but I’m hoping someone is the kind of person who likes to get things out of the way.
